Divorce Mediation

  • Do you feel overwhelmed just thinking about divorce?
  • Are you unsure where to begin or who to talk to?
  • Have you begun the divorce process and feel like you’re spinning your wheels?
  • Are you tired of the back-and-forth between your attorneys?

I empower couples to take control of the divorce process and move forward on their terms.

As a therapist, my goal is to help couples and families resolve problems. When it becomes clear that things are not working, I am able to shift gears and support them by serving as an empathetic divorce mediator.

I understand that divorce is difficult – emotionally and financially. Mediation offers couples a solution for moving through this stressful process with the least amount of anger and frustration.

My practice is built on understanding family systems from both a clinical and mediation perspective.

As a divorce mediator, I empower couples to take control of the divorce process and move forward on their own terms. I work with clients to identify their priorities, explore available options and decide what works best for them. And while it may seem impossible at first, you will be able to make decisions – on issues ranging from alimony and child custody to division of assets – that are good for you and good for your family.

Divorce mediation is a collaborative effort.

Through the mediation process, couples work as partners to come to an understanding that is fair to both parties and uncontested. There are two parts to the divorce mediation process that I help couples deal with: child custody and parenting, and financial issues ranging from asset division to alimony. My role is not to take sides or impose solutions. I serve as a neutral third party to guide you in creating your desired outcome together – without the struggles, arguments and endless costly back-and-forth with attorneys.

There are several basic steps in the divorce mediation process:

  • The first session is a 15-minute consultation to review the mediation process.
  • Each one-hour session involves a facilitated discussion to explore key issues and how to resolve them. Both parties are encouraged to actively and respectfully participate in the process.
  • I offer guidance and information to make sure you are aware of the impact of each decision on you as individuals and on your family.
  • I draft a memorandum of understanding that documents what both parties ultimately agree to in a fair and equitable way.
  • This is not a legal document but it is legal and binding once it is signed and submitted to the court.
  • I recommend that it be reviewed by an attorney.
